Proposed Constitutional Change
Rosehill is looking to change from being a fully mutual housing co-operative to a charitable registered housing association. After careful consideration and taking the advice of our Governance Consultant and solicitor, the Management Committee decided that it would like to put a resolution to the Members of Rosehill to change its constitution.
The primary reason for wanting to change our constitution is the increasing challenges of recruiting Committee Members from our membership which is currently only open to our tenants. This is a requirement of being a fully mutual housing co-operative. If we became a Housing Association our membership could be opened up beyond our tenants. This could include other service users and those who support the objects of the organisation.
Not having sufficient number of members on our Management Committee is a real threat to the future of Rosehill. Opening up our Membership to others would help to strengthen the membership of the Management Committee in terms of numbers and skills.
Changing to not just a Housing Association but a charitable registered housing association has added benefits. Please see the information leaflets below for further information.
Whilst we want to change our constitution this will not affect your tenancy either now or in the future.
Members will be asked to vote on this change which involves adopting new rules and a name change to Rosehill Housing Association Limited at a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Tuesday 17th September at 6:30 pm.
Information and Consultation
In April we issued an information leaflet about our proposal to change our constitution, our reasons for wanting to do this and what this means for you as a tenant and member. We issued further information about a series of drop-in sessions over late May and June. These sessions were to give our members the chance to come in and speak to us, over a tea or coffee, about the proposal and to ask any questions they may have.
The latest information leaflet was shared in June. Over the summer we will gather any feedback or questions that tenants/members have asked us about the proposed change to our constitution and will produce another leaflet to share this information.
If you haven’t already contacted us to discuss the proposal and you have any questions or concerns about it, please get in touch. We want to ensure that our members/tenants have all the information they need before being asked to vote at the SGM in September.
